Who needs life insurance?

Friday, January 8, 2010

It is all too often the case that we, as human beings, possibly in hope of immortality, refuse to take seriously our need for life insurance. There is always something more pressing and moreover, who wants to think too hard about illness and their own mortality? While this may be the case, it does not stop the fact that we will all inevitably die one day and god willing we will leave some loved ones behind when we go.

In no demographic group is this more commonplace than in the expat community. With all of the added expenses incurred with living abroad, such as the inevitable private medical insurance and public liability insurance, who has anything left for life insurance? Besides who wants to think about death at a time when you are in perfect health? In fact if you are in good shape, it could be the best time to secure a life insurance plan, as it will help secure lower premiums.

Think!

It is not the case that everyone needs life insurance. First you must ask yourself, who stand to benefit when I die? If the answer is no-one then why do it? If you have no dept, no dependants and no-one to take care of, then the money is probably better spent on enjoying the day-to-day and planning for your own provision.

Also, look at what life insurance you already may have through work benefits programs as well as premium bank accounts and see how much this will insure loved ones when you die. It saves you from the common problem of over ensuring. It’s great to know your family is taken care of but over-insuring is unnecessary.

Compare!

Comparison sites prove incredibly useful and increasingly so for those living abroad. More and more expats are finding their services invaluable especially if they are not experienced in the language of their local country. A comparison site with thorough market coverage and provide real peace-of-mind.

Complacency can be a Killer

While most people from an early age are taught that loyalty is a very admirable trait, this is not even close to the truth when it comes to insurance providers. Don’t just secure a policy and sit back while premiums climb. Re-evaluate annually and see what else is out there. It’s prudent to continually keep these companies on their toes not only for your own best interest but for society as a whole!

With these tips in mind hopefully you can carry on living your life to its full, wherever that might be, knowing that you have true peace-of-mind that you have comprehensive life insurance cover.
