Potentially life threatening condition highlighted by European Obesity Day

Friday, May 28, 2010

The recent European Obesity Day 2010 that took place on May 22nd has been endorsed by online life insurance comparison site Quoteboffin.co.uk. Campaigners have been trying to draw attention to the on going fight to reduce the problems that are associated with obesity across Europe.

The campaign hopes to help the astonishing 50 per cent of Europeans who are currently deemed as overweight, in shedding between 5 and 10 per cent of their body weight and therefore cut obesity rates across the European Union. Although the problems surrounding obesity in the UK have been well documented, other parts of Europe have been a bit slow on the uptake and are only now becoming aware of the issues involved.

A spokesperson for Quoteboffin.co.uk had this to say:

“The campaign represents a positive step forward in spreading the word about obesity and its dangers, most people in the UK are aware of the problems that can be caused by obesity, but campaigns like this act as a great way for countries to share knowledge.”

European Obesity Day provides guidance and health advice to the general public, as well as convincing people to sign a petition to push the European Union to introduce ways of supporting overweight individuals in terms of healthy lifestyles or health coverage for alternative therapies.

With obesity remaining a big threat to health in the UK, including diabetes and heart problems, and as a debilitating condition in its own right, it is also incredibly important to educate healthcare professionals about the severity of the condition, to help them be able to give the best treatment to the overweight. Other factors, such as a rising cost in life insurance are also contributing to the problem.
