New Life Insurance service for people with HIV announced
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Insurance company Kiln have announced this week that they will be launching a new service for people who have been diagnosed with HIV. The new insurance policy is specifically tailored for the needs of people with the disease, and is provided to customers without the requirement for a medical examination or any medical reporting to validate the policy.
The new policy, which is called ‘Harbour’, is designed specifically for those people with HIV wishing to obtain life cover having been diagnosed. The product offers people life insurance of up to £25,000, and also has the option for people to take out accidental death cover for up to £200,000 if required.
Over the past few years, treatment for people suffering with HIV has improved dramatically, meaning that survival rates are better than ever before. Although there are more people being diagnosed with the disease than there has been in the past, the development of outstanding anti-HIV medications and an improvement in care for people with HIV means that people are staying healthy and well for much longer than ever before. Currently, approximately 83,000 people in the UK are HIV-positive.
Many people in the UK are of the opinion that insurance companies will not provide support for people diagnosed with HIV. However, changes in medical treatment mean that more and more insurers such as Kiln are prepared to provide fair policies.
The Harbour policy was developed in order to make it easy for people with HIV to obtain comprehensive life cover. The application process is very straightforward, and the cost is relatively low in comparison with previous company’s premium rates for HIV life cover. Harbour provides people applying for the product with charts to determine what level of cover they are looking for, in relation to their age and how much they are prepared to spend on the policy.
