Just one year off the cigarettes can save on life insurance
Wednesday, March 24, 2010
10th March, 2010 was this year’s No Smoking Day and every year, thousands of people vow to give up with many achieving their goal. It is still the case, however, that even after the smoking ban was put in place, a surprising number of people still smoke. Something that might encourage people to try and give up, other than the obvious financial benefits of not buying cigarettes, is the phenomenal amount that can be saved on life insurance premiums.
The Office of National Statistics has stated that on a regular basis, over 20 per cent of Britons smoke. Furthermore, 22 per cent of the population are actually classed as smokers, even if they do not smoke regularly. There has been some progress with the numbers of smokers decreasing, according to the Department of Health, however with the financial benefits of giving up smoking, should you have life cover; the decrease in smokers could be set to move in the right direction.
Just giving up smoking for one year could positively impact your life insurance premiums and once an ex-smoker starts enjoying the lifestyle afforded to them by the reduction in their monthly expenditure, then they are more likely to be encouraged to quit for good. Add to this the stringent Government campaigns to get Britons off cigarettes, such as advertising bans, the possibility of plain, unbranded packaging and the marketing aimed at discouraging youngsters, then the smoking statistics could soon paint a wholly different picture.
The statistics published by the Office of National Statistics next year could demonstrate that UK residents are more concerned with looking after their health, as well as their wallets.
