Good news for vegetarians!

More and more life insurers are offering lower premiums for health and well being. Now there are some policies coming to market that are actually offering breaks for a vegetarian lifestyle. There are premiums breaks for as much as 6 percent for those that choose to not eat meat.

This new strategy focuses on studies that indicate vegetarians are not prone to the same health risks as those people that eat a lot of meat. It would seem only natural that if people who choose to not eat meat are less likely to fall victim to the same chronic illnesses as meat eaters, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even certain types of cancer then why should they not pay less.

When it comes to insurance premiums, some insurers are claiming that turning a blind eye to these statistics is paramount to subsidising meat eaters. Apparently as many 2.2 million people claim to have not eaten meat in the last 12 months, while a further 1.3 million will join them next year. There are claims that a vegetarian lifestyle will cut the chance of developing certain types of cancer by up to 40 percent and high blood pressure by as much as 30 percent.

This being the case, it is important that vegetarians feel the same benefits as those that choose to live a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise etc. Who knows, maybe it will coerce hardened meat eaters to give up the pork chops before the time comes to switch life insurance providers!
